Your child thinks an alcohol-free party will be a failure
Almost every parent of a teenager will probably face this issue at some stage. Buying alcohol for your kids is a very risky and dangerous business. Be very careful, not only about the dangers to young bodies and brains, but, in some parts of the country, your legal position as you are supplying alcohol to underage drinkers. It would appear that community attitudes are changing and the law is undoubtedly getting tougher on underage drinking because we are learning more and more about the potential risks involved.
As much as your kids may promise to love you forever and tell you what a ‘cool’ parent you would be if you did provide the alcohol, you must remember the risks involved. Although you may want to be best friends with your teenager, kids get the opportunity to have many friends but they only have one set of parents. Make sure that you carry out the responsibility, even if it makes you unpopular.
Without a doubt if your teenager holds a party and provides alcohol to his or her friends, it is going to be regarded as the party to be seen at. However, we know that drinking in these environments (whether it’s provided by parents or smuggled in) is carried out in a risky way, so the safest bet is to do your best to keep your party alcohol-free.
